China In Africa: The New Imperialists?
In Zambia, Africa Chinese investors made deals with the government to mine their resources. Chinese people moved to the cities and started companies, copper, coal, and gem mines, built hotels and restaurants, set up schools and hospitals which all provided jobs for the Africans. But, there were corruption, labor abuse, and criminal coverups which made the relationship between China and Africa get bad. The type of Imperialism used here is Colony Imperialism; which is where its controlled by a foreign power.
By 'taking over' Zambia, China has made everyone uncomfortable about it. This has also made the U.S. Worried about how fast China's profitable investments moved throughout the continent of Africa. The exports from Africa went up from one to fifteen percent in the past decade while the European exports went down from 36 to 23 percent; this making China Africa's biggest trading partner. China is 'taking' Africa's natural goods and giving them processed goods in return. China's Imperialism has left Zambia wondering where their government's lucrative deals have gone. In 2011, President Michael Sata was elected Partly for the anti- Chinese sentiment. but, forged, or faked, close ties with the leader of China. The people who live in Zambia are complaining about the lack reliable information about the resources that are made in the country or are foreign sources that help develop Zambia.
